Nigerian Veteran Actor, John Okafor, Dead.

Nigeria is grieving the loss of a renowned Nollywood actor John Okafor, famously recognized as Mr. Ibu, who passed away at 62.

“I announce with [a] deep sense of grief that Mr Ibu didn’t make it,” said Actors Guild of Nigeria President Emeka Rollas on Saturday.

It is reported that the actor suffered a cardiac arrest.

Public awareness of the actor’s health struggles began last year. In November, one of his legs was amputated after fans contributed to a crowdfunding campaign for his medical expenses.

Subsequently, his son Daniel Okafor and adopted daughter Jasmine Chioma were arrested on suspicion of accessing his phone and embezzling $60,700 (£47,800).

They have not made any statements since their arrest in January and are scheduled to appear in court on March 11, 2024 for further proceedings. Okafor’s final years were marked by turbulence, as reported by Nigeria’s Punch newspaper, with the actor alleging multiple instances of attempted poisoning.

Mr. Okafor gained prominence two decades ago with the movie “Mr. Ibu,” which ultimately became his enduring nickname throughout his acting career.
He went on to star in more than 200 Nollywood films – including Keziah, 9 Wives and several Mr Ibu sequels.
According to local media reports, he is survived by his 13 children.

This is a great loss to the movie industry; AR Multimedia wishes all bereaved family and friends our heartfelt condolences.
